Habitat and Range
Endemic to one small glaciated valley located in the Swiss Alps, Tuberosum alpinus is
anagensistic; that is, having evolved without sub-speciation. As a chordate, oviparous
mammal, it is taxonomically unique to the Northern Hemisphere, and is thought to be
a product of hyper-specialized adaptation to harsh conditions in a closed bio-system.
The situation of Tuberosum alpinus is precarious, and it is a badly endangered species..
