![]() Nurturing. Tuberosum alpinus cares tenderly for it's young. The young hatch quickly, mature rapidly, and hence suckle very frequently. The lactating Female, therefore, is semi-sessile whilst feeding, a period of about two months. Since mating and egg-laying recommence as soon as the current brood is hatched, the Female must nurse continually. The Male, therefore, forages for her, scraping lichen from the rocks with his front paws then storing it for transport entangled in his brooding mat. He presents his rear to her as she suckles, and she picks the fodder from his mat with her teeth. |
